A Restored 1930s Dairy Barn in Wake Forest

The Historic Wakefield Barn is a 1934 dairy barn in Wake Forest, about 30 minutes from downtown Raleigh. It was restored in 2017 and sits on about 14 acres of a working horse farm, so you may have a few equine guests. The first floor keeps its original stables, which work beautifully for cocktail hour, with a patio and lawn just outside. Upstairs, the second floor is the main event space, seating up to 250 for the ceremony and reception. There's a bridal suite on site.

Why We Love DJing at Wakefield Barn

We've DJ'd at Wakefield Barn, and the old wood and the upstairs dance floor make for a warm, close-knit party. Here's how a Discoboxx wedding comes together there:

  • Ceremony upstairs or on the lawn: The second floor is the most popular ceremony spot, and the lawn works on a nice day. We bring wireless ceremony sound to either.

  • Cocktail hour in the stables: We set up a separate speaker downstairs so cocktail hour has its own soundtrack while the room upstairs is flipped.

  • Reception on the second floor: The DJ sets up along the middle of the wall with the dance floor right in front, so the party stays close.

  • Lighting: Uplighting and dance floor lighting bring out the old wood beams.

Planning Tips for Wakefield Barn

  • Plan the flip: If your ceremony and reception are both upstairs, cocktail hour is when the room changes over. Give your planner and us the timeline early.

  • Say hi to the horses: They make great photo cameos. Build a few minutes into your photo timeline.

  • Add a photo booth: The stables make a fun photo booth backdrop. Our sister brand Hotshot can be added to any Discoboxx package.

Getting married at Wakefield Barn? Check your date and see pricing. Discoboxx wedding packages include ceremony and cocktail hour sound and your DJ as MC, with no travel fee in the Triangle.
